Health education, the path for a better and longer life

Current project

CINKASSEY↔KANDI, a human development project

Presentation

Cinkassey and Kandi are two cities in Togo and Benin (West Africa), respectively. These two cities are at the heart of a beautiful region (see map) where Baobab Humanity Initiative (BHI) is engaged with its people, supporting them in their exciting struggle for a better life.
BHI is interested in the following projects:

* Digging wells to provide safe water for all inhabitants of the region
* Supplying electrical power to homes
* Planting trees to fight desertification: moringa trees (also fights malnutrition), cashew trees (provides cash crop)
* Building schools accessible by all children
* Literacy campaign: teaching people to read in their native languages
* Funding of women-run cooperatives and businesses, such as community gardens
* Children's and women's health: providing health education, counseling, medicine, clinics

What we're doing

* Organizing information campaigns targeting schools, organizations and individuals through discussion, panels, lectures, music & art exhibitions and other gatherings to raise awareness, raise funds, and obtain resources
* Recruiting volunteers to support efforts both in the field (in Africa) and in administration (in the U.S.)

The partners

* Fr. Antonio Gutierrez (Don Bosco), head field partner

* University of Santa Clara:
Women & Law, International Law Students Association

Our next steps

* Information campaign in the Bay Area with Antonio Gutierrez as lecturer
* Field trip for leaders of BHI to Africa to discover, through direct experience, the most pressing needs of the people whom we serve
* Recruitment campaign:  recruit volunteers to help us expand our reach within the U.S.

You can help!

* Volunteer in the U.S.:  coordinate and host a lecture for your organization, translate articles, support administrative efforts
* Volunteer in Africa:  provide expertise in support of our projects in the field
* Become a supporter of our organization by making tax deductible donations
* Spread the word about our work and the plight of the people in this region
