Antonio Gutierrez Antonio was born in Spain. His studies led him to become an elementary school teacher, a professor of history and geography, and a professor of theology and philosophy.

He is a member of the Salesian Community of Saint John Bosco.

Antonio has spent 20 years in Africa, in Benin and Togo. He speaks Bariba and Mokolle, languages spoken in Benin.

He has worked for four years in a training school in Parakou, as well as in development for fifteen years in Kandi and Cinkasse (northern regions of Benin and Togo).

He has initiated and participated in the building of schools, free clinics, wells, churches, and training centers.

He has also been involved in promoting improvement in living conditions, women’s work, reforestation, gardening, elimination of illiteracy, and the utilization of solar dryers.

As a prison chaplain, he was responsible for elimination of illiteracy, and for the provision of medicine, clothing, and general/spiritual/medical care for prisoners.

All these activities were in addition to his regular duties of celebrating Mass, leading prayer groups and religious meetings, and teaching catechism.

Antonio has many ideas for continuing human development and looks forward to implementing them in these areas.
